What are the different types of inclined lifeline systems?
The inclined lifeline, a crucial component of a fall protection system, is used for work at height where access is difficult and the slope is steep. The term ‘incline’ refers to the configuration of the lifeline, which is installed so as to follow the slope or incline of the roof or structure.
Sloped lifelines can be temporary or permanent. Temporary sloped lifelines are generally used for short-term or mobile projects, such as construction or one-off maintenance. They are flexible and easy to install and move as required.
Permanent inclined lifelines are permanently fixed to the structure and are used for regular tasks at the same site. They require professional installation and are often made from more durable materials.
There are also different options for the type of cable used in an inclined lifeline. The choice between a steel cable or a polyester webbing will depend on the job requirements and environmental conditions. Wire ropes are strong and durable, but polyester webbing can offer greater flexibility and resistance to certain environmental conditions.
Finally, the choice of inclined lifeline may also depend on the type of fall arrest device used. Some systems allow the use of mobile fall arrest devices that move with the user along the line, whilst others may require fixed fall arrest devices.
