EPI for the construction industry: our checklist
The construction sector is a particularly high-risk environment, accounting for 14% of all accidents at work. Construction PPE that complies with standards is essential to avoid injury and work incapacity.
High-visibility clothing: diggers, backhoe loaders, steamrollers... when you're on a building site, it's vital to be clearly visible so as not to risk being knocked over by machinery. Your PPE clothing should be fluorescent yellow with reflective strips.
Fitted clothing : in extremely hot, cold or damp conditions, the choice of adapted or modular clothing helps to avoid numbness, discomfort and fatigue. Certain PPE, such as those fitted with knee pads, also make work more comfortable and prevent the development of musculoskeletal disorders.
PROTECTING HANDS AND FEET
Safety shoes: thanks to their shell and non-slip sole, they protect you from both potential impacts and falls to the ground.
Dielectric and ESD PPE : electrical refurbishment, work on high-voltage lines or even on a partition wall all expose you to the risk of electrocution, leading to burns, discomfort, shocks and even fatal accidents. Dielectric gloves, helmets or shoes will protect you from the risk, while antistatic PPE will prevent the formation of sparks - in the ATEX sector.
Helmets: a blow to the head can cause severe injuries. Helmets protect you from falling objects, tools or rubble, as well as from bumps.
Hearing protection: to prevent the noise from drills and jackhammers permanently damaging your hearing, earmuffs and earplugs are particularly effective, as long as they are carefully chosen according to the noise level to which you are exposed.
Protective goggles: paint, liquids, particles, sawdust... The risk of eye splashes is omnipresent in the construction industry. Don't forget to wear safety goggles on construction sites.
Breathing masks:toxic dusts and fumes are not only unpleasant at the time, some can have long-term consequences for your health. Protecting yourself in different environments is essential.
Whether you're a carpenter, machine operator, roofer, painter, bricklayer, tiler, electrician or plasterer, you're not immune to the occupational risks associated with construction: to equip yourself according to your level of risk and your needs, consult our online brochure dedicated to PPE for the construction industry or request a job audit for a personalised selection of PPE for the construction industry.
